(mix mag). the original house mix, which is a deliciously nasty reflection of the outfits sinister electrohouse sound. the rather minimal introduction is soon enough spiced up with a clash of synths that sound industrial and melancholic at the same time, thereby creating a dreamy and utterly brilliant vibe as spacey as spacey can be. it s proggy, it s electro, it s on the edge of deep house too, but above all, it s absolutely amazing. frank muellers america mix takes care of the final remix with a more uptempo and more towards progressive club rocker featuring brilliantly sampled vox, shifting synths and lots of deep sound waves. whereas the previous two tunes engage on a hypnotic trip, this one shoots the listener even further beyond the stars right into the unknown depths of space. the uptempo rhythm is what makes this track an absolute insane piece of progressive/deep house music, and therefore a definite must-have. you simply can not afford to let this ep pass you by. 365 mags absolute number one ep of this autumn, and unlikely to be bettered this year.

pole folder has emerged as an intrinsic part of the emotive dance music juggernaut that has been steadily powering through club land over the course of the last few yearsà alongside djs such as guy gerber, guy j, and james holden, pole folder has been at the forefront of a movement back towards the melody rich sounds on which house music is based. his first 2 releases on label la tour garnered huge support from the likes of sasha, laurent garnier, luciano, carl cox and christian smith. this offering starts off with pole folders original, which features the vocals of sean ryan, delivering epic slabs of sound, stacked atop glitchy lo-fi drums that result in a listening experience that simply swallows you whole. the vocal whilst gritty retains a rich and lush quality that is the perfect overlay to this track.

tube10 returns to the scene again with a release to blow your minds away. this time its the greek formation ekelon. their debut on planet mu with headhunter on mary anne hobbs evangeline had us in our grasp so much that we couldnt help ourselves then to hit them up and see what whould happen. tube10 005 is the result of this encounter and it shows ekelon flexing their crossover sound like no other. is it techno? is it dubstep? we dont know but we sure as hell love both tunes to bits!
the a side evidence - a steady tune in the ekelon sets and lots of others aswell. feel this tune filling up the speakers and rumbling up those subs we thought where lost.. a perfect blend between all that is experimental while keeping it dj friendly..flip it over for freeze land.. an chilled out tundra of techno, thats how we like to call it.. frozen subs combined with defrosted stepping vibes ensures this to be a solid first release for the ekelon boys.. and dont worry this wont be their last!

nys underground celebrity, electronic obscurity and rare disco specialist william burnett (aka grackle, aka speculator) delivers an ep that truly defies any categorization and therefore will have a harder time to find its way into the stores usually packed with easily digestible pre-masticated dancefloor stew that comes with filing recommandations. the music on this record evokes images of mad peyote sessions held amidst dry and sandy landscapes. the original desert acid sounds like a jam machines and instruments would do when left on their own, unsupervised by humans. a wobbly and acidey synthline goes on a psychedelic journey with fuzzy guitar riffs, backed by a stompy almost tribal discobeat. düsseldorfs currently most interesting band musiccargo rework the piece into a cinematic krautdisco gem that floats on a loopy vibraphone drone, sprinkled with german and english lyrics. sombrero galaxy (aka cbs/intergalactic fm regular dj tako reyenga and his mysterious uk buddy jonny nash) take the track into cosmic realms (rare occasion where the term really fits) and their version could easily be interpreted as a vangelis tribute. the last track on the ep we are it is a slow 808 jam with druggy and spaced out fuzzy vocals, paired with equally druggy and fuzzy guitars. if you are a filmmaker and you need a song for a weird desert scene youd be an idiot not to consider this one the perfect choice.

in the late 1920s and the 1930s, at the end of many performances, all of the musicians, singers, and dancers would get together on stage and do one last routine: the shim sham, shim sham shimmy or just sham. dancers would perform technical variations, while singers and musicians would shuffle along as they were able.
in the heat of the night, let those sweaty numbers melt down any worries. no top hat and gator shoes required ... just shake that ass!

just in case someone might have forgotten: stil vor talent is based in berlin. and this ep by sascha braemer, one part of heinrich & hirtenfellner, proves just that. braemer, whos just been at the top of everybodys dj charts with his funk-laden minimal soul piece >mamba drums< on kindisch records, has donated three tracks to oliver koletzkis imprint that mirror what this city is best know for: funky minimal grooves. first up there is >ghost track< a typical dry minimal loop with a rhythmically in touch vocal sample that is then juxtaposed by a simply astonishing piece of melody. goose bumps and groove humps on the floor - guaranteed! on the flip: >girl<. here braemer has created a dubby piece of tech house that floats towards a soulful vocal and some beautiful strings. this is one for the early morning, or in berlin, the late afternoon, those times when everything seems in perfect harmony with each other. last up is >guitar man<, yet another very sample-based stripped down loop with one riff of an echoed guitar being the protagonist. when that riff is fully played out, we all know its summer. but it wouldnt be berlin if there werent some dark wobbly basslines seemingly destroying this but in fact creating the perfect combination of soft and hard, of light and dark. on top of this the vocal sample >i wont leave< perfectly encapsulates the vibe of the praised berlin afterhour. stil vor talent is back at home with this ep.

the swedish house mafia with laidback luke, play pauls new project ryskee, a brandnew moguai together with sebastian ingrosso and last but not least patric la funk! what a huge package! this ep has the title essentials quite rightly!

this is the one you ve all been waiting for, the bad science ep from the mighty rustie. amazingly enough for an artist who has such an huge impact over the last year this is only his second full ep. i could go for on days about how good it is but best not eh. it all kicks off with the fractured hip-hop weirdness of tar and then swiftly moves into the massive bad science. we ve been seeing folk go crazy to bad science and rightly so, its an anthem and has getting properly hammered by kode9 and mark pritchard to name a few. its then on to the out there 8 bit bleepage of shadow enter. the b-side is now dedicated to the now legendary zig-zag and wireblock have really done themselves pround with this one by going straight to one of rustie s hero s the legendary henrich mueller (dopperleffekt, drexciya, arpanet etc) to add his own electro-physics sound to the aquatic mentalness of the original track. it comes to an end with zig zag (reprise), now the original was daft enough but this just to pushes it even further into new realms of madness. buy, buy, buy!

to those of you who know your techno, shawn rudiman should be a well-known name. a prolific producer, he has nevertheless always kept his quality control on a tight leash, and releases on 7th city, technoir audio, integrated, dust science & matrix (amongst others) have brought him a reputation of being one of the finest producers around of contemporary detroit style (aka melodic) techno. a nice taster on the last minimalsoul release (sashimi hi) has hence led on to a full ep, and its classic stuff...tough beats and esoteric but catchy melodies all tied up with an expansive production ethic make for a great listen, and (perhaps unusually with this style of music) for a great dancefloor experience too!

its been a while since the last rsb release, but then tracks like this dont come along every day! for their first vinyl appearance on a label other than their own, enigmatic german duo ancient methods do the honourable thing and break out the whip, a track that comes across like a 2-step party in the foundry of thor himself. lets lazily label it anvil techno, because as far as we are aware no has yet invented a genre that adequately desribes music such as this. and as we have come to expect, much the same can be said of the evil sickness that is eat like hawks by bjorn svin (with a little help from karsten pflum, jona olesen & copyflex!). it starts like it means to go on, with a gnarled loop and indecipherable distorted vocals, and is gradually tweaked and augmented to the point of destruction. all manner of ill bass, overdriven filters, zaps, clanky drums & feedback join the party before the whole affair is brought to an abrupt end by the strange foreign lady that we have come to know and love over the course of the track. truly music for small, sweaty, strobe-driven cellars.

marco petralia: his sound is deep, dirty and twisted – his dj sets are energetic and impulsive! as bigcitybeats resident he played already side by side with international dj stars like george morel, roger sanchez, steve angello or mark knight and further is responsible for mixing the very popular bigcitybeats compilations which hit the top ten of the german compilations charts each time they are released. marco can refer to a row of successful releases on labels like open bar music, miss moneypennys and of course bigcitybeats. the baggi begovic remix of his last single >getting deep< got massive support from roger sanchez! without exaggeration you can call >breaking all the rules< marcos best release so far featuring stunning vocals by the young and beautiful us singer taleen marie and a bunch of rocking remixes from superstar d.o.n.s, uprising newcomer cold n what, abel riballo & dj kds and robert heart & christian gimbel.

moleculez returns to meta4 ready to clear dancefloors with some of his most destructive material to date. you know you are dealing with some serious dance music when none of the tracks on a release have vocal samples. the opening track, future in progress, is blessed with a wonderfully deep kickdrum that would probably even sound good at plus20, although we havent tried that yet. out of a nowhere the track suddenly seems to have stopped when an eerie melody creeps out of the dark. this sets the tone for the rest of the release: dark, driving and threatening. gargoyle is the most driving. lava bomb the eeriest: and future in progress the most threatening. thats what we think, anyway. you decide. the last two tracks on this release are probotector and the haunted. the first is actual textbook honest to goodness industrial hardcore while the latter isnt really anything we can talk about here. highly recommended because we want to sell records

christian hilscher and nico plagemann - three minutes before the start: three double signals are flashing at the starting lights. the pilots are strapped into their cockpits with pinpoint accuracy. windows down, elbow out. the sound system is at the limit, the golden chevrolet is shimmering û a real feast for both the audiences eyes and ears. one minute before the start: the motors start roaring. now only two double lights are flashing at the starting lights. adjust your sunglasses. put in the first gear. the bass is vibrating. 15 seconds before the start: only one double light is flashing. now, the kollektiv is on its own. the last bit is tickled out of the sound system. behind the car, a marshal is waving a yellow flag when suddenly the windows start vibrating with the bass. the speed range is signal-red. start: the last double signal of the starting lights goes out, and for the charming guys from hamburg, five green lights are going on: the start. the pulse rate is rising up to 110. its the point of no return - the race is on..

this one was a smash all last year at the john waynes beach parties and its not hard to see why. beautiful and hypnotic naive melodies intertwine with a gently bumping rhythm with plenty enough groove to get you off the sun lounger and dancing on the beach/by the pool/on the roof (delete as applicable). perfect for the summer that keeps threatening to happen in the uk but that we never quite seem to have, time to go on holiday. theres a killer piano part that comes in later in the second half after the clip finishes

data drop another massive bomb for the summer sharam (one half of deep dish) teams up with kid cudi whose smash hit from last year day n night just wont go away (with so many bootleg mixes still being made and spread all over the blog sites) this time they go for a country & western vibe with a sample from patsy clines strange big support for this already from pete tong who started his show with it and has since made it his essential new tune remixes come from sharam himself who takes it deep and dubby on his homage to the white isle with his ecstasy of ibiza mix. andy van, kam denny aka australias vandalism provide a superb slammin house mix in there usual no nonsense style!! an essential summer anthem!!

after the success of their collaboration with paul thomas on last years festival anthem >arena<, mark knight and funkagenda join forces once again on one of the most eagerly anticipated tracks showcased at this years miami wmc.
>good times< is the feel good anthem of the summer comprising of a modest intro with a warbling bass line driving slowly through collecting sounds, before opening up into an edgy synth stab and finally the insanely catchy vocal hook >these are the good times<! the track drops back in like a speeding locomotive train going full steam ahead, with cleverly placed percussion, fx and siren sounds soaring to create an intense rhythm.
on the flip, >flauta magica< shows the diversity of these two acclaimed producers when they get in the studio together. taking a different route from the lead track and concentrating more on the groove, >flauta magica< chugs along nicely with an almost tribal percussive feel to it. the excellent chanting vox sample, reminiscent of the early house sound, keeps the groove rolling along into the drop. taking the lead from the tracks name, a whistling flute riff drops elevating the musical vibe to a new balearic level.

slam bring us the third chapter in their devestating paragraph series, following up their dancefloor destroyer, hot knives that was played by the biggest djs around and dubbed as one of carl craig s favourites of the last few months. the label s previous releases have already had big support from the rest of the techno fraternity, including legends richie hawtin, adam beyer, dubfire, anja schneider, len faki and francois kevorkian.
paragraph number 3 delivers some deep, bass-heavy electronic funk on the a-side, with one note samba . grooving from the off-set, the percussive elements of the track wind around a solid and heavy sub bass, introducing dubbed-out horns reminiscent of slam s freelance science days. hypnotic and tripped out, slam return to their house roots.
on the aa room 2 , dedicated to one of the world s best clubs, fabric, where slam hold a residency, keeps with the stripped-down, rhythmic and gritty sound of paragraph. whilst constantly fluctuating echoes and delays control the rhythm of the track, a swirling, yet straight to the point synth creates some frenzied and panic-inducing builds throughout, leading to a wholesome and satisfying ride cymbal. room 2 is a killer, peak-time track that will be sure to induce some serious convulsions on dance-floor.

temple of the sun is the fifth ep of the london based french producer harold boue. after his last track >chandler bing< has been charted by erol alkan and played by simian mobile disco, rex the dog (for bbc), mattie safer... abstraxion is creating here an universe of mixed up dark and brightness with warped-schizophrenic bassline. this ep reaches the diversity of abstraxions universe: from peaktime techno (b and s, temple of the sun), disco-balearic (slices), to beatless deep ambient (vampyros lesbos). abstraxion is composing an organic music, only with old analog synthesizers, in a gesture of unmitigated desire: a desire for the elementary beauty of techno.

computor rockers return after the worldwide hit that was computor interface (brk49) with another showcase of exactly how electro should be put together. all too often retro can mean dull and uninspired (or just lame plagiarism), but anyone who has been following ed dmxs career over the last several years will know that really isnt the way he plays the game. instead he understands the value of songs and melody... the beats are fresh, without a doubt, but it will usually be the tune or the lyrics that will hook you into a dmx production, the elements that turn just another electro track into something unique and valuable. and so it proves here, from the classic computor shock (which helpfully comes in vocal and instrumental versions for those who just cant do the voice thing) to the melodic and hooky electro-funk of how we used to rock and distributed processing. stunning as always!

the original instrumental mix of stardust was one of hed kandis favourites at el divino last summer, and with the new season already taken off with the ims and the opening fiestas last week, ibiza is the perfect place to drop the new vocal mix, which really sounds like the long awaited vocal version of pjanoo that has never seen the lights of the day. this adds a monster loleatta holloway sampling vocal to the large twisted disco groove of the original. a massive bomb that is set to be a big hit for the usuals! skylarks andy chatterley takes to the controls with a powerful interpretation, complete with sharp driving drums and an underlying techno rhythm. a more stripped down dub mix is enclosed also for those who like things a little bit darker and deeper. last but no by means least, tim hudson, fresh from his latest here comes the sun release on hysterical, turns in a hypnotic house groove to make you smile.
